Holiday Fun with “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

If you’ve never seen a Peanuts holiday special, this might be a bit slow for you. But, this one, in particular, is a must-see classic!
I was very excited to find the entire special on YouTube, albeit in parts.
It’s called “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and the slower pace and jazzy music score is really part of its timeless charm and what makes it so memorable so many years later.
I didn’t realize it till now, but it first aired in the same year I was born, 1965! So, this season, this little movie and I are both turning 43! I’m not sure why, but just knowing that makes me feel strangely, yet genuinely, happy! : )
“A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS”
PARTS 1 - 3
PART 4
PARTS 5 - 6
CONCLUSION
Though this animated short film is 43 years old, its message remains as timeless today as when it first aired—except maybe the part about the pink aluminum trees. That fad had already passed by the time I first started watching TV in the mid-70s, so I always wondered about what that reference was all about till the things came back into vogue briefly, a few years ago, as part of an overall 50s - 60s retro fad.
If you’ve never seen one, you can check out a couple of silver ones in this article. Apparently, they were all the rage from 1959 to 1969. According to that same article, their sudden drop in popularity was directly linked to this TV special! Anyway, this little piece of holiday nostalgia really takes me back, and I love it! : )

We have the DVDs of the Peanuts Holiday Collection and watch them throughout the year. In fact, my son just watched a couple of them yesterday and he still laughs uproariously at the same parts every time. Snoopy cracks me up and Charlie Brown can never catch a break.

Hi Gloria! Great to hear from you! So you guys get to watch the Peanuts Halloween and Thanksgiving specials, too! I recently watched them on YouTube and enjoyed them a lot. I get the feeling that if I keep watching these, I’ll never really grow old.
It fascinated me how many inside jokes for adults there were that I never fully appreciated before but had to admire this time around. Yet, they’re still a good old fashioned fun time for kids! I’m so glad your son likes them! I wasn’t sure if the new generation was even watching these old cartoons, but it’s heartening to know.
Thanks for sharing, and Happy Holidays to you and your family! : )
