FASTING LOG: DAY 2
After just one day of fasting, I lost 3.2 lbs.! I’m now at 140.8 lbs.!
I feel sluggish and mellow. My movements and thoughts are slowed, but still no “hunger” pangs. I did have a coated tongue this morning, which I brushed clean; and, all else is fine!
Yesterday, I fixed three of my favorite meals for my boyfriend. The smell was positively intoxicating! My sense of smell (and, presumably taste) is already heightened. (I cook and do the dishes for us; and, he does everything else around our home, including the laundry. I think I got the better end of the deal. Even though I’m fasting, I’m sticking to my usual daily activities and chores, which includes cooking!) I fixed these meals because that’s what I’d normally make for us both (these are his favorites, too!), and I don’t intend to make him suffer just because I want to fast.
HOW LONG CAN HEALTHY ADULTS FAST?
Anton J. Carlson, Professor of Physiology, University of Chicago, states that a healthy, well-nourished adult can live from 50 to 75 days without food, provided he is not exposed to harsh elements or emotional stress. Human fat is valued at 3,500 calories per pound. Each extra pound of fat will supply enough calories for one day of hard physical labor because 10 lbs. of fat are equal to 35,000 calories!
HOW DOES FASTING HEAL OUR BODIES?
The answer is rest. When our bodies are at rest, most of our energy is focused on the chemical and mechanical processes of detoxification. Therefore, while fasting, which is an extended and deep rest period from the highly-demanding work of digestion of food and processing of other toxins such as tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, we recover much faster than normal. We rid our bodies of toxins, damaged cells, and excess fat, allowing the body to use its own self-healing processes to naturally “declutter” our bodies at the cellular level. As our toxic load decreases, every cell’s functioning is improved. In the same way that sleep restores our vital energy, fasting rebuild our vital energy through prolonged rest and detoxification.
Normally our bodies eliminate waste through our liver, lungs, kidneys, colon, etc. However, when these systems are overloaded, our bodies turn to “emergency” measures to eliminate excess waste: boils; mucous and other discharges; sweats; vomiting; diarrhea; and many others. Finally, if not even those “emergency” methods of elimination are enough to rid our bodies of the excessive waste, the toxic overload will go into storage form and be deposited into our joints, vessels, muscles, organs, and almost any tissue in the body. While fasting, our bodies are highly conservative of our energy and resources. During this time, toxin intake and production are reduced to a minimum while elimination remains unchecked. Anabolic processes such as tissue and bone healing also proceed at a maximum rate.
BeiYin writes: “The first stage of cleansing removes large quantities of waste matter and digestive residue. The first few days of a fast can be difficult due to the quantity of waste passing into the blood stream. The tongue becomes coated and the breath foul as the body excretes waste through every opening. After the third day of the fast, there is little desire for food. The second stage is the cleansing of mucous, fat, diseased and dying cells, and the more easily removed toxins. As the fast continues, the cleansing proce4ss becomes more thorough. The last stage is the cleansing of toxins that have been accumulating in your cellular tissue from birth, and the microscopic tubes that carry vital elements to the brain. Cleansing of the last layer is only possible through a combination of juice fasting, water fasting, and a healthy diet high in raw foods.”
“During extended fasts, the body removes: dead, dying, and diseased cells; unwanted fatty tissue; trans-fatty acids; hardened coating of mucous on the intestinal wall; toxic waste matter in the lymphatic system and bloodstream; toxins in the spleen, liver and kidney; mucous from the lungs and sinuses; imbedded toxins in the cellular fibers and deeper organ tissues; deposits in the microscopic tubes responsible for nourishing brain cells and excess cholesterol.”
“Nearly everyone who fasts, discovers the same thing: That when they fast, they actually have no hunger and more energy than they normally have. It is indeed liberating to find out that, if we let go and trust, that we will be taken care of. Fasting is the simplest, easiest, and most effective way to find out that we do indeed have the power and freedom to heal and take control of our bodies.”
