Around the same time that I found the 4 Quick Tips for Stress Management, I also found these 4 Quick Tips for Happiness.

Big things sometimes come in little packages. These little gems of wisdom are an excellent example.

4 QUICK TIPS FOR HAPPINESS

1. Stop focusing on the negative. Whatever you give attention to grows. Shift the focus to the positive in your past, present, and future. Invest the same energy into this new attitude and imagine the possibilities!

2. Give people the benefit of the doubt; and, if they disappoint you, don’t take it personally. People are dealing with their own issues. And, most people are so-so. But, don’t let that ruin your happiness. Accept what people are willing to give freely, and don’t stress the rest.

3. Lower your expectations of others, so you will be happily surprised once in a while, instead of the other way around. Be realistic with expectations of yourself.

4. Find out what you’re really hungry for and feed that hunger instead of stuffing your pain down, deeper inside of you, with excessive food, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.

CONCLUSION

When I found these tips about seven years ago, I could tell they made sense. But, I couldn’t imagine how to put them into practice for myself because my life was such a mess. I had a job I hated, a family that hated me, and a man in my life with whom I had grown hopelessly codependent. Still, I could recognize in these four little tips the power to set me free from all these emotional storms. I wanted to adopt them into my life. I just didn’t know how yet. Nevertheless, the desire to feel that way about myself and those around me was enough to get me started. I wrote these tips down and kept referring to them in times of extreme crisis. They helped me get through them. I am sharing them now in case you might need them, too.
