Does Your Drink Show Your Personality?

Tuesday, February 5th 2008 by Shanel Yang

Life is fast-paced in America. People make decisions about you quickly here based on whatever they see you do and hear you say. So, when you walk into a restaurant or a bar and order a drink, they might judge you based on your choice of drink.

There are experts who claim they can tell what kind of person you are based on your favorite drink.

See if you agree with their theories by comparing your own personality and your own favorite drinks against the list below.

Domestic Beer, like Budweiser, Coors, or Miller: Lower-economic class, frugal, or easygoing (having a friendly, relaxed personality).

Imported or Microbrewery Beer, like Heineken, Corona, or Sam Adams: Easygoing but also a little more sophisticated than domestic beer drinkers.

“Jack and Coke” (Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola): Manly; blue-collar image.

“Gin and Tonic,” “Rum and Coke,” or “Long Island Iced Teas”: Likes to get drunk fast; loud and a little obnoxious.

Bourbon, Scotch, or Vodka, “straight” (without anything else) or “on the rocks” (with ice only): Confident, direct, and ambitious; white-collar image.

Pina Coladas, Mai Tais, or Daquiris: “High Maintenance” (a difficult person to deal with; see “High-Maintenance Personalities”).

Fruity White Wines, especially Chardonnays: Also high maintenance.

Red Wines: Passionate and love living life to the fullest.

“Mojitos,” “Martinis,” and “champagne”: Picky and a bit self-centered.

Soda or Juice: Alcoholic or designated driver (person picked to drive the other drinkers home). If you say you’re the designated driver, they might give you your non-alcoholic drinks for free.

Now, let’s order some drinks! If you want to fit in, order what everyone else is having. If you want to give the impression that you are an independent thinker, choose one of the above, depending on the impression you want to make.

SAMPLE ORDERS

“What beers do you have? … I’ll take a Heineken.”

“Bartender, I’ll have a Jack and Coke. … Thanks.”

“When you get a chance, could I please get another glass of red wine?”

“Miss, could you please bring me a gin and tonic?”

“Excuse me. I’d like to order a drink: a glass of chardonnay. Thank you.”

CONCLUSION

Don’t forget to tip at least fifty cents to one dollar per drink. Not only will you be doing the right thing, you’ll get better service. Be awesome! Be your own hero!
